A Colorful Heart

Yesterday, Harper came down with a stomach bug and today she is feeling better but we decided to stay in-just in case. I saw this fun valentine's craft project in my MOPS magazine and I thought it would be fun to try.
First you need a box of crayons or any crayons laying around will do

Next you peel the wrappers off the crayons and break them into pieces.

Oops-I forgot to get a picture of the next step: You line a muffin tin with the foil cupcake liners. Then you fill the liners with the broken crayons.

My little helpers

The article mentioned making them into the shape of a heart so I added a folded piece of foil to make them turn into the shape of a heart. I think I should have bought a heart tin but oh well, you live and learn.

After the muffin tins are full, bake them in the oven at 275 degrees for 10 minutes. Take them out of the oven and let them stand at least 30 minutes (to let them cool and let the wax harden).

A finished heart multi-colored crayon. I wish there was a way to only buy valentine's day colors to make them look prettier.

Next, peel off the foil liner

To me these look like colored Reece's peanut butter cups with a bite taken out of them.

Now that they are done, not sure what we are going to do with them. Harper tried one and they are really fun to color with.

  1. I was thinking they looked like Reese's too!!! Looks like a lot of fun AND a great way to recycle all those old crayons that the kids don't want to use anymore!!!

You can also do the crayon painting on wax paper. Cover an electric warmer with wax paper, heat up and then start coloring!!!! The wax will melt as you color... looks cool!
